Spiritual Direction
Spiritual direction is the art of holy listening with another person that they may draw closer to the divine life within them. This practice looks remarkably different for everyone—as different as their own fingerprints.
I bring a wealth of theological and spiritual formation, but most importantly, my experience in faith and prayer anchor me in this practice. This includes times of dryness and wandering as much as moments of grace and fidelity. I'm committed to exploring matters of the heart and spirit in ways that honor our social identities and commitments to justice. I especially enjoy accompanying people as they discern their vocation, and those whose commitments have left them feeling dry or exhausted. At this stage in my own life, I'm just seeking to be faithful, radically present, and to let go of whatever gets in the way of union with God in Christ in a deeply animate world. I welcome people from any religious background or none and have been profoundly encouraged by many other faith traditions. You can read more about my background here. I offer both online and in-person meetings at my home in South Pasadena. Meetings for spiritual direction usually occur monthly for one hour.
These are some ways I can be supportive:
remembering why you are here
becoming more present to your life, relations, and body
finding a way to pray that works for you
discerning a new call or making a major life transition
discovering how to work for justice and liberation in ways that are life-giving
connecting to spirit in the midst of grief or loss
integrating psychedelic experiences, including difficult ones
working with ecological grief
encountering God in nature and in the animacy of creation
healing the heart’s wounds including those that have led to anger, perfectionism, numbness, or sadness
sorting out theological questions that feel urgent in your relationship with the divine
not letting the life of the mind (as wonderful as it can be) be a substitute for life in the spirit
learning new and old ways to be Christian (if that is your path)
“…to “listen” another’s soul into a condition of disclosure and discovery…”
